Deck Care & Cleaning Guidelines

Suggested by Trex

DIRT AND DEBRIS: Surface dirt/debris can be removed from the deck using warm, soapy water and a soft bristle brush/broom (NO Power Washing).

ICE AND SNOW: To protect the deck surface, use a plastic shovel to remove snow.  Calcium chloride or rock salt may be used to melt snow/ice.

OIL, GREASE, AND FOOD: All food spills should be removed as soon as possible, no longer than seven days, to maintain the stain warranty.  Use warm, soapy water and a soft bristle brush/broom to remove spills on the deck surface.

MOLD AND MILDEW: Use warm, soapy water with a soft bristle brush/broom to remove pollen, mold, or mildew buildup on the deck surface.

RAILINGS: Use warm, soapy water to clean railings.  Never use acetone or solvents.  Avoid all attachments to railings. Only Plexiglass may be used as a safety barrier, secured with zip-ties.  Do not drill in railings.

PRIVACY FENCES:  Avoid the use of nails/screws on privacy fences. Decorative items may be hung on privacy fences using command strips or plastic hangers.

RUGS AND GRILL MATS:  Allow deck surface to be exposed to elements for 3 months before covering with rugs/mats.  All rugs/grill mats should be made of colorfast synthetic materials like polypropylene, recycled plastic, polyester, or viny-backed. Grill mats should be fireproof.  DO NOT use rugs/carpets made of rubber, vinyl, or latex to avoid marks/discoloration or metal accents that cause scratching to the deck.

PLANTS:  Plants may be placed on the floor to avoid standing water between the pot and the deck. Planters/window boxes are not permitted to hang on/over the railing to ensure safety from falling objects.

ATTACHMENTS: Attachments are not permitted using screws, nails, tacks, staples, etc., to any part of the deck, railing, privacy fence, or supporting structure. This includes, but is not limited to, satellite dishes, lights, cameras, and decorative items. If you have an item that needs to be attached, a Request for Alteration Form must be completed and approved.
